I agree with your observation that the Garmin Connect course creator is much better. Getting this over to Strava is not easy and requires a multi-step workaround. Best way that I can see would be to create the course in GC, then convert it to an activity by running it through the plotaroute site and import it as an activity back into Garmin

"Steps" are already on a data screen. With the "walk" activity, while the activity is in progress, swipe up, and there is another data screen that has the steps of the left side.
